Review and Giveaway: The Coloring Studio

January 15, 2016 by Heather Holbrook

Review: The Coloring Studio

The Coloring Studio is a new publication from Stampington and Company that focuses on the huge trend of adult coloring books. Inside you’ll find over 50 coloring pages from many different artists with a large variety of styles and designs, from whimsical to doodle to realistic. The Coloring Studio is not just a coloring book though, there’s also tons of tips, techniques and inspiration like using different coloring mediums like regular and water color pencils, crayons, water colors, markers and pens. Tips on highlighting, shading, doodle patterns  and the basics of color theory. There’s also questions to artists about their processes, favorite color pallets, mediums and styles. And how to get your friends together and host a coloring party.

Review: The Coloring Studio

Some of the things I enjoyed most about The Coloring Studio was the large variety of styles to choose from, all the great tips and inspiration and that most of the pages do not have another coloring page on the back side, this makes it really nice so pages don’t bleed into each other. The paper in the book is a good thickness and worked well with the different coloring mediums I tried. For the pages I’m sharing here with you I used colored pencils, alcohol markers and water Colored Pencils

Review: The Coloring Studio

If you’re starting out with coloring books here’s a few tips, place a blank piece of cardstock behind the page you’re working on to prevent any bleeding onto other pages, this really helps if your using watercolors or markers. I like to keep my pages in the book but you can also copy your pages and use them alone or incorporate them into other projects like greeting cards, scrapbook pages or collage art. It also makes it handy to color on the go and also not have to keep the book propped open. But if like me you want to keep your pages in the book visit your local craft or art supply store and look for a large thin flat wooden artist easel that has a large rubber band wrapped around it, it’s perfect for holding your book in place while you work.

Review: The Coloring Studio

Coloring is fun, relaxing and creative and it’s definitely not just for kids anymore! So check out The Coloring Studio at your local book or craft store or buy it on-line here from Stampington and Company.

Or you could win a copy! I’ve got an extra copy of The Coloring Studio to giveaway to one lucky reader! To enter simply leave a comment below, one comment per person, US residents only please, winner will be chosen at random. Giveaway runs from today through 1/20/2015.
