13 Dark and Spooky Halloween Card Ideas

September 23, 2025 by Heather Holbrook

13 Dark and Spooky Halloween Card Ideas

Amy created this creepy design with a heat embossed spider web background and die cut mushrooms and pumpkins. The green leaves are a nice breakup of the darker colors and the white heat embossed sentiment really pops. But the best thing about this card is parts of it glow in the dark! Check it out over at the Prairie Paper and Ink blog.

After such a hot Summer I am so ready for Autumn with some crisp cool air, crunchy leaves, decorating the house (there’s already a pumpkin on my front porch) and creating some handmade cards for Halloween. I love *all* things Halloween, cute and creepy, so last week I shared some cute and sweet handmade card ideas (click here if you missed it) so now I’m ready to check out some dark and spooky Halloween cards today.

Beneath each photo you’ll see a link, click it for more details like products used, tutorial and techniques.

I’m a big Addams Family fan, comics, TV shows, movies, I love it all! So of course I’ll be including a couple of Addams inspired card ideas. This one from Steph features a stamped Morticia in front of their infamous house up on a hill. I love the creepy ink blended sky she created! Take a closer peek at the Stampingbella blog.

Sorry to any one who has arachnophobia but spiders are perfect for creating creepy cards like Beth made. Over the neon green textured background she’s added a die cut wooden frame, a few dark spiders and a die cut EEK! sentiment in a bold purple. I came across her design on the Whimsy Stamps Instagram page.

No one does Halloween quite like Tim Holtz! Nichol used new stamps and dies to design this wonderfully creepy skeleton dancing among pumpkins. She colored the stamps with OLO Markers and created the stunning background with stamping, stenciling and ink blending on a trendy arch shape. Watch her video tutorial at Simon Says Stamp.

I would call this card Spoopy, spooky with a touch of cute. Using stamps from Sweet November Amy created this creepy stamped graveyard scene with a zombie girl in front of an air brushed and stenciled moon and pink sky. The touches of pink and funny sentiment add some less creepy touches. Learn more at A Thousand Sheets of Paper blog.

This creepy cauldron card is from Michelle, made with dies and a stamped sentiment. The cauldron and witchy shoes are die cut from black glitter paper and the rest of the items are cut from colored cardstocks. She added subtle orange inking around the card edges and a few shiny gems too. Find step by step directions at the Spellbinders blog.

Ok, one more Addams Family card, this time it’s inspired by Wednesday’s Netflix TV show. Laurie’s stunning design is a box card with a dry embossed brick balcony with die cut trim, stamped stained glass window, heat embossed sentiment and of course Wednesday and Thing, stamped and colored with Copic Markers. Find directions at the Stamp with Laurie blog.

This cool card from Amanda was created with a frame die cut from black cardstock on an orange base. Inside each section are subtle ink blended panels to add color, then she added stamped and die cut images over top and there’s also a surprise, the sentiment area is a shaker! Find more info at the Newton’s Nook blog.

Another spooky thing I’m a big fan of is Disney’s Haunted Mansion. This interactive card by Channin is inspired by Madam Leota in her crystal ball. She used stamping, heat embossing, stenciling and holographic film for this amazing card design. The best part is you need to push a button to see the face show up! Learn all about it at the Hero Arts blog.

Caly’s wonderfully dark haunted house card has a bit of coloring from Copic Markers and a fa-boo-lous ink blended background. But the special thing about the stamped house is it’s dimensional, with sections that can be separately die cut and layered with foam tape, how cool is that!? Find out more at the Caly Person blog.

A witches cupboard isn’t complete with out lots of potions. Gemma used dies with cardstock and glitter papers to create 3 bottles, each with a label with a die cut image of what’s inside. They sit on a tall slimline card with a stamped sentiment, ink blending and splatter. Take a closer peek at the Pretty Pink Posh blog.

For this creepy card Marie cleverly turned a Jack O’ Lantern bucket die into a cauldron by not cutting out the features, what a great way to stretch her supplies! She also turned cloud dies into a bubbling potion, adding google eyes and die cut bones too. Behind is a stenciled purple sky and above is a glittery die cut banner. I came across her idea in her Marie Nicole gallery at Scrapbook.com.

The funny sentiment adds some whimsy to this spooky card from Julissa. The long slimline design gave her room to include 3 die cut panels with stamped and ink blended backgrounds and stamped and fussy cut ghosts hanging on the clothes line. Learn more at the Unity Stamps blog.

I hope you’ve not been too frightened with this dark and spooky trip to admire some creepy card ideas!
