How to Make Spring Chick Grid Cards

March 20, 2025 by Heather Holbrook

How to Make Spring Chick Grid Cards

How adorable are these Spring Chicks cards from Yana!? They are bright, playful, and absolutely bursting with personality. There’s something about those sweet little chicks that instantly makes you smile — and the way she’s designed the layouts makes them even more eye-catching.

Yana used a clean grid-style layout for these darling designs, arranging her stamped images in neat rows across the card front. It’s such a simple concept, but it creates a strong visual impact. By lining the images up in rows — almost like a patterned sheet of designer paper — she turns individual stamped images into a cohesive, graphic design element.

What’s especially clever is how she varies the grid on each card. Some designs feature rows of two images, others have rows of three, and some incorporate taller rows to add vertical interest. Even though the underlying idea stays consistent, those small adjustments make each card feel fresh and unique. It’s a perfect example of how you can stick with one layout concept but still create an entire coordinated card set without anything feeling repetitive.

She also plays around with sentiment placement, which keeps the designs dynamic. On some cards, the greeting is tucked neatly into the grid, almost blending in with the pattern. On others, it stands apart as a focal point, breaking up the rows and drawing your eye right where she wants it. That thoughtful positioning makes a big difference in the overall balance of each design.

And let’s not forget the background colors. By switching up the cardstock shades behind the grids, she instantly changes the mood of each card. Soft pastels feel light and springy, while brighter tones add a bold pop of energy. It’s such an easy way to stretch one stamp set and one layout idea into multiple finished projects.

These cards are a great reminder that you don’t always need complicated techniques to create something special. A simple grid, a bit of thoughtful variation, and playful images can go a long way in creating charming, professional-looking handmade cards.

This style of card is perfect for using smaller stamped or die cut images, filling the front and not needing a background, frame or lots of extra details, it’s very clean and simple. She’s sharing a video tutorial with tips on laying out a grid and how she colored her stamped images with Copic markers over on her blog.
