Techniques: Using Distress Inks

March 21, 2011 by Heather Holbrook

Tim Holtz is a highly regarded name in the world of crafting, and he has recently shared a fascinating video on the Stampington site that showcases the many different ways you can use his Distress Inks. Distress Inks are not your typical stamping inks, as they react with water, which makes them ideal for a wide range of creative techniques. This video is an excellent resource for anyone looking to take their crafting skills to the next level and explore new ways of using these inks.

One of the most exciting things about Distress Inks is their versatility. As Tim Holtz demonstrates in the video, there are countless ways to use them beyond simply stamping with them. For example, you can use them to create a beautiful watercolor effect by simply brushing them onto your paper and then adding water. This creates a gorgeous, soft, blended effect that is perfect for backgrounds, borders, and other decorative elements.

Another technique Tim Holtz showcases in the video is embossing with Distress Inks. By simply stamping your design with clear embossing ink and then applying the Distress Ink over the top, you can create a stunning raised effect that adds texture and depth to your projects. This technique is particularly effective for creating vintage or distressed looks that are popular in a variety of crafting styles.

Tim Holtz also shows how Distress Inks can be used for resist techniques, which involves creating a design using a resist medium (such as embossing powder or masking fluid) and then applying the ink over the top. The ink will not adhere to the areas covered by the resist medium, which creates a beautiful contrast between the areas of color and the blank spaces.

Tim Holtz’s video on the Stampington site is an excellent resource for anyone looking to explore new ways of using Distress Inks. These versatile inks offer endless possibilities for creativity, and this video showcases just a few of the many techniques that can be used to create stunning designs. Whether you are an experienced crafter or just starting, this video is sure to inspire you to experiment with Distress Inks and discover new ways of using them in your projects.

Tim Holtz shares a cool video over at the Stampington site on the many different ways you can use his Distress Inks. These distressed inks are different from regular stamping inks, they react with water so in addition to just stamping with them there are lots of other fun techniques you can do.

WOw. That stamp was amazing at the end of the video. I had the idea of distressing with those stamps but that was awesome with the red and black. Very cool.
