Technique: Using Bleach on Your Cards

April 7, 2012 by Heather Holbrook

Leslie at Blockheads shares a really cool technique for coloring on dark cardstock. She uses bleach to remove the dark background leaving a nice blank area to then add her coloring.

What a great idea for using a bleach pen! I never thought to color over the bleach with markers, but you can bet I’ll try that next time!

Love this idea! Would metallic colored pencils work too??

    Christina,
I’ve used regular colored pencils over bleached areas so I’m sure metallic pencils would work well too.

Christina – Any colored pencils will work but just be very careful to not bear down too hard while coloring with them, as the bleach degrades the cardstock somewhat, and the pencils can tear it. I’ve also learned while playing with this technique that if alcohol-based markers are used with black embossing powder, the bleached area can get black streaks through it. Just food for thought! 🙂
