Somerset Studio has long been one of my favorite paper crafting magazines, it’s a huge inspiration and I’ve also been honored to have been published in a few issues over the years. The current May/June/July 2019 issue is a revamp for Somerset Studio. It still includes all the wonderful samples, examples and inspiring art pieces you expect but with more added art papers that you can cut out and use in your own work as well as new prompts and worksheets. These new pages give you a space to try a technique, learn something new and just play.
I filmed a quick flip through video you can watch on Youtube or down below.
I tried several of the prompts, like the Little Houses inspired by Cathy Marks art. I made mine with papers, ribbon, lace and transparencies.
I also tried the Scribble Flowers, following the step by step directions, adding watercolors and white gel pen to create mine. I’m really happy with the results and will definitely be using this technique in some future artwork.
I tried my hand at the drawing and stencilling prompt creating a fun splashing mermaid tail.
And I was super inspired by Lisa Mallette’s Songs of the Forest hand bound nature themed book and created a collage piece using one of hers for inspiration.
I hope you’ve enjoyed taking a peek at the newly revamped Somerset Studio magazine. Look for it at local craft and book stores or click here to get a subscription directly from Stampington and Company.
