This is my last installment of summer magazine reviews from Stampington and Company and I’ve had a blast bringing you little peeks and my own inspirations this week! Today let’s take a look at the the May/June issue of Somerset Studio. Somerset Studio is full of amazing collage, mixed media and paper crafting projects, techniques, artist profiles and even free papers for you to use. This issues has projects like stamped and stitched fabric book marks, a cigar box covered with papers and solder, turning vintage clothes into dyed works of art, decorated bird houses, a stitched journal made with lace, fabric and mica shapes, stamped clay and wood necklaces, altered vintage photos and much, much more.

Michelle Wards canvas journal pages covered in snippets of lace and fabric, with stitches of embroidery floss and mica shapes really inspired me. I love the monochromatic creams and layers of texture mixed with the natural pieces of mica. For my project I used a shaped canvas book page I had, turning it into a wall hanging using Michelle’s house on a hill design as inspiration. I layered up pieces of lace and made a little house from chipboard and lace, adding a stamped word and threading ribbon through the page holes to hang it from.
I hope you’re inspired by the May/June issue of Somerset Studio. Look for it on newsstands or directly on-line from Stampington and Company. And be sure to check back soon, we’ll be having a HUGE magazine giveaway including this latest copy of Somerset Studio!!

When I have a little chunk of time to myself, I go to the bookstore, pick up Somerset, GreenCraft, & Reloved magazines, as they really feed my creativity and upcycling spirit. Hope these never go outta print! 🙂
