This week is very exciting! I’ve got four magazine reviews to share with you and when we’re done I’ll be having a HUGE giveaway and you could win a copy of each of these fantastic publications from Stampington and Company!
To kick things off the summer issue of Somerset Studio Gallery is full of over 200 collage, mixed media, stamping and paper crafting projects. Inside you’ll find completed projects, helpful tips, tutorials and techniques. Like how to use Karo Syrup with water colors, many book making ideas like a colorful business card mini book, mini tag journal, a Berlin themed ring binder book and a tag book to hold fibers, encaustic wax techniques, how to doodle on eggs, making a collage house from an old hinge, artist trading block shrines and loads more. Whether you like bright and bold or distressed and vintage, if you’re a beginner or an expert you’re sure to find projects that appeal to your style or will inspire you to try something totally new.

I was personally inspired by two ocean themed cards I found in the magazine designed by Maxine Glass. She created a lovely mermaid card and a girl by a light house using stamped images, dark blues and swirls of white, adding netting for the perfect embellishment. For my sample card I used a nautical style pattern paper over sanded blue cardstock, adding some netting and stamped images of a ships wheel and mermaid.

Never in a million years would I have thought Karo syrup could be used in watercolors. That would be an interesting article to read.
