Review: Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and Fine Line Markers

October 5, 2016 by Heather Holbrook

Review: Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and Fine Line Makers

Long before trying out the Prismacolor Premier line of colored pencils and markers I’ve been a long time fan of Prismacolor. When I first started rubber stamping I took a class and the instructor highly recommended Prismacolor colored pencils and once I used them I was hooked and for over 20 years now they  remain the colored pencils I continue to reach for. So I was super excited to try out the Premier Line of Soft Core Colored Pencils and Fine Tip Illustration Markers and like all Prismacolor items I’ve used they did not disappoint.

I found the Premier pencils to be creamy with a slightly softer lead then traditional pencils which made them excellent for blending and shading and there’s no “skratchy” look like you get with many other types of colored pencils. With slight pressure you can get a large gradation of color from just one pencil and they blend well with other colors perfectly so with 150 colors of pencils the possibilities are really endless. The Fine Line markers have a 005 tip thickness which is perfect for doodling as well as coloring in very small areas. They also come in Brush and Chisel tips for all your drawing or coloring needs. The marker colors where bright and vibrant and the tips held up to lots of coloring pressure without breaking or splitting.

I wanted to color a larger project (shown above) so I used the pencils on a coloring page from one of my Harry Potter coloring books. I love how easy it was to shade and get a really artistic look with these pencils.

For my first card I tried out the Premier Pencils coloring the image trying one of my favorite techniques and that’s using odorless mineral spirits and a blending stump with the pencils. This is a quicker technique for coloring that gives a wonderful soft look.

Next I colored in a very detailed Mandala image using the Premier Markers, they are perfect for getting into small areas and coloring detailed images. Like I mentioned before the tips held up to all the coloring and I love how vibrant the colors look!

So, if you love to color in color books, color your stamped images, doodle in your organizer  or sketch in your journal it’s my turn to highly recommend Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and Markers. You can find out more about these products on the Prismacolor website and find loads of inspiration on their Instagram page.
