Review and Promo: Silhouette Stamping Starter Kit

September 4, 2013 by Heather Holbrook

Review and Promo: Silhouette Stamping Starter Kit

The folks over at Silhouette continue to expand on their terrific product lines to include even more option with what you can do with the Silhouette die cutting machines. The lasted release is right up my alley, The Stamping Starter Kit with stamping material ! Using the clear sheets of stamping material on the specially designed mat in your Silhouette Portrait or Cameo it’s quick and easy to cut out shapes to make your own custom stamps. For my project I chose a cute die cut set with some woodland animals, I sized them to make sure they would fit perfectly on a card, placed the stamp material on the mat, chose the “stamp material” setting on the machine with my blade set to 9 and hit cut. I was amazed at how easily the machine cut the material! I used a Silhouette “Pick Me Up” tool to help punch out the tiny holes (like the eyes) in the stamps. The kit comes with three acrylic blocks that have grids on them so it’s easy to line up your stamps. There is also a black in pad in the kit and I found it worked the best when inking up my stamps, the skunk was stamped with the ink that comes in the kit. I tried several other types of inks and found pigment and chalk inks worked the best. Dye inks wanted to bead up a bit on the stamps but I found if I used a small sponge dauber to apply the ink to the stamp I got much better results then just tapping it on the stamp pad. So after stamping out all my critters I added some details with black and white pens, cut them out and made a sweet card with them all. The stamps cleaned nicely with regular stamp cleaner and I plan on storing them on acetate sheets in a binder.
