Review and Giveaway: A Somerset Holiday Magazine

October 4, 2016 by Heather Holbrook

Review and Giveaway: A Somerset Holiday Magazine

It’s never too early to start planning or even working on projects for the upcoming holiday season. Stampington and Company is here to help get you started with ideas, projects and inspiration in their new magazine, A Somerset Holiday. It’s filled with over 80 projects like ornaments, tags, cards, home decor items and more. You’ll find a recipe for fragrant ginger bread ornaments, a simple way to display your Christmas cards, an advent wreath, stamped and stenciled gift bags and boxes, a wooden block nativity scene, needle felted animal ornaments, burlap stockings, decorated glass ornaments, and loads more. All projects include photos, supplies needed and how to instructions or tips. You’ll also notice lots of different styles from rustic to elegant to whimsical with projects that take a short time to complete or more detailed projects to challenge you.

Review and Giveaway: A Somerset Holiday Magazine

There were many projects in A Somerset Holiday that inspired me like the Perfectly Framed Ornaments by Melinda Barnett. She painted metal frames with chalk finish paint buffing off areas for a weathered look, adding vintage images and glitter inside. I followed her directions and was really pleased with my lovely new ornament.

I also loved the 10 different ideas for embellishing Kraft tags, these are perfect for adding to boxes and bags, food items, jars, hanging on wine bottles or trees branches. I made 4 tags similar to the styles in the magazine. They were fun, quick and easy to make.

I hope you’ve enjoyed taking a peek at the new A Somerset Holiday magazine with me. You can click here and purchase it online directly from Stampington and Company or pick it up at your local book shop. Or you could win a copy!

One lucky winner will receive a copy of A Somerset Holiday, simply leave a comment below letting me know what the first holiday project you plan on working on will be. I’ll pick one winner at random, one comment per person please, US residents only. Giveaway runs from today through 10/9/2016. Good luck!

The first holiday project I started working on is a 1:12 scale dollhouse and furniture for my 4 year old granddaughter! The furniture is built and the floors and outside walls are on the house. I can only work on it Fri-Mon when she is at her mom’s house so it is taking longer than expected! Glad I started early!!!

First off, I LOVE me some Somerset craft mags, always get that one off the shelf & sit & look at it cover to cover at B & N, would be tickled to win this. I’m going to frame illustrated children’s songs, w/ little ephemera, tiny objects, etc. in the margins, for my 2 grown daughters. They ea. have fav. song fr. when they were little, & the lyrics lend themselves to lots of visuals. Thanks for the giveaway!

I love crafting and expose my granddaughter every chance I get to experience the joy of creating something uniquely hers. It is a bonding experience that allows us to share fun times together. With the holidays coming up, this would be a perfect resource for us to create personalized gifts for the Season. Christmas is so commercialized; but to have a gift made especially for one that took time and thought is much more personal and treasured.

I love the picture frame that is shown. This would make a perfect gift for my family reunion (we always do a craft and I have been wanting to do something with a picture of my grandparents but nothing I have seen would have been easy to do but appropriate for everyone). That is in early November so I will be on the lookout for this magazine in case I am not the lucky winner. Right now I am knitting a pillow cover for a Christmas gift and those tags would be perfect for the wrapping.

Oh my goodness, I don’t know where I’d begin. We are in the process of moving out-of-state, and with all the house prep for selling, and locating a new house – all my craft items are packed away. I would probably start with something very simple – gift tags. I’ve always wanted to try making them, they look easy, and you can make them as easy/fantastic/difficult as you want. And it would be something small, that I could easily hide away when prospective buyers come calling!

  36. Betty Clay says

    October 5, 2016 at 8:07 pm

I would like to color my own gift tags for the holidays this year.

I love this magazine company, but I can never afford them, so this is a great chance! I have quite a list of Christmas crafts I’m planning as gifts, but I want to get on right away on one set of flower pens and a set of feather pens (with handmade flowers and feathers out of paper) for my daughters, by Saint Nicholas Day.
