The new book Crafting with Digital Die Cutting Machines by Libby Ashcraft is a how to manual for three of the most popular brands of electronic die cutting machines on the market. Covering Brother Scan N Cut, Silhouette and Cricut machines this book will take you through all the features of each brand with detailed directions on how to use them, what materials can be cut, tips and techniques and a large array of projects. Each project has step by step instructions as well as links to free SVG files you can download and use. They are many projects using fabric such as an apron, quilt, pillows and gift bags, and also a project using etching cream and a few using vinyl ideas with tips on using different mediums that can be cut. Although many of the project in the book use fabric many of the techniques and projects and all of the files can be used for paper crafting for cards and scrapbooking as well. If you’re new to electronic die cutting machines this book gives a wonderful overview to help you decide which machine might be the right one for you to purchase or if you already own a machine you’ll probably learn something new and find some fun new inspiration.
For my project I used the cute Happy Easter with two rabbits cut file and instead of using it for the bag project shown in the book I used it to create a sweet greeting card. Following the tips in the book I used a USB drive to upload the SVG file pattern to my Brother Scan N Cut. This is something I haven’t tried before on this machine but now that I see how easy it is I’ll be doing it often.
