There are so many fun sea creatures you can include in Mermaid cards like these adorable otters on Amy’s card. She used stamps from Hello Bluebird for her scene, colored with Copic Markers. Take a closer look at her Thousand Sheets of Paper blog.
Each year on Instagram artists, creators and crafters participate in MerMay, sharing their creations that feature Mermaids along with the hashtag #mermay. I love all things fantasy and Mermaids are a personal favorite of mine so I look forward to seeing all the amazing art each year. Many paper crafting companies have mermaid stamps, dies and papers (myself, I might be embarrassed to admit how many Mermaid stamps I own :)) so let’s take a look at some Mermaizing handmade card creations featuring Mermaids!

Deborah was inspired by a sketch challenge for her under the sea card. I love the rock formation and all the coral and shells she added, it creates a very dynamic scene! And what’s better than a mermaid pun sentiment?! Learn more at the My Favorite Things blog.
This card from Sandra has a bold, colorful sunset behind the mermaid enjoying the view. This card is interactive with a fun shaker element using sequins in colors that match her design. I spotted this beautiful card on the Picket Fence Studio Instagram page.
This trio of darling mermaids are sunny themselves on the beach. Notice how Mendi used a large label die to bring focus to the mermaids but the scene carries on beyond it, this is such a unique and interesting touch! Find this and 5 more mermaid card ideas over on the Sunny Studio Stamps blog.
This beautiful card of splashing tails requires no coloring, just ink blending in pretty purples and blues. Caly also added an amazing interactive element, the large tail in the back swings back and forth, how fun is that!? She’s sharing a video tutorial on the Simon Says Stamps blog.
Gayle used stamps from the Nautical Bliss collection for this stunning watercolor Mermaid card. This collection includes several Mermaids and other underwater creatures like seahorses and whales. Swim over to the Pink Ink Designs site to learn more.
Laurie created a mini slimline style card for Mermay with an under water pattern paper background and die cut sand. Her mermaid stamp is beautifully colored with Copic Markers and she also added some fun preprinted flags and die cut coral and shell. Take a closer look at the Stamp with Laurie blog.
Lauren created a seamless under the sea Mermaid card with a masking technique and stamps from The Rabbit Hole Designs. She also used a no-line coloring technique on her stamped images and added the water and sand with ink blending. Find all the details on the Queen Lore Creations blog.
The design team at The Greeting Farm have jump in with Mermay creating 4 different cards using the same Mermaid Anya stamp. This card from Davina has a tall slim line style with a beautiful blonde mermaid swimming in a layered scene of bubbles, sand, fish and corals. The vellum paper behind her helps adds to the depth too. Take a look at all the designs at The Greeting Farm blog.
Not all Mermaids are beautiful, they can also be a little dark and creepy like this cool stamp from Stampotique. This card also has a dry embossed background and lots of blue inking for the water. I spotted this design on Angel1dot0’s gallery at Scrapbook.com
This beautiful card from Rachel shows you don’t need to create an ocean background for Mermaid, she created blue stripes of cardstock, some with bubble embossing, for her background. She added a few sequins and a sentiment to finish it off. I came across her card on the little.finn.crafts Instagram page.
This sweet card has lots of hot pink including the scalloped card edge and the Mermaid’s hair. There’s also a fun heart shaped shaker element in the center surrounded by cute stamped sea creatures and a treasure chest. I came across this adorable design from Marieke on the Scrapbook and Cards Today gallery.
I hope you’ve been inspired to make a splash and participate in Mermay this year. Don’t forget to used the #Mermay hashtag so we can all enjoy seeing your card ideas!
