12 Handmade Highland Cow Card Ideas - The New "It" Animal

Lawn Fawn is always on top of the trends, here Catherine used a new stamp set to create a wonderful platform pop up birthday card full of a herd of cute highland cows. I love the soft colors she used and all the pretty daisy flowers! Learn more at the Lawn Fawn blog.

You know how every couple of years or so there’s an animal that’s really popular? It’s been Axolotls, Sloths, Capybara, Octopus and several others and they show up on everything from clothes, decals, home decor, holiday decor, you’ll see pictures of them on all over your social media, and they also show up on our crafting supplies like stamps and dies, they just somehow become the new popular “it” animal. Well, I’ve been noticing the latest in this trend and it’s Highland Cows. These adorable cows are traditionally a tannish brown color with cute floppy Beatles hair between their horns and they are super cute! So today we’ll jump on the bandwagon and check out some trendy cards that feature Highland Cows.

Vanessa’s amazing farm scene uses a large background stamp colored with colored pencils with the cow standing behind a fence in the foreground. The die cut frame really frames the setting nicely and I love all the little blue birds scattered around! These products are from Miss Ink Stamps.

Lisa ink blended the round purple background on her Thank You card with a stencil and that helps pull the eye right to the center with the darling cow. She colored her cow with Copic Markers, cutting it out and placing it over the circle adding a stamped and die cut word bubble sentiment. Watch her coloring video at the Unity Stamps blog.

Highland Cows are perfect for creating masculine cards like this one from Rick. He dry embossed, ink swiped and stamped his background for a custom design. The focal point is a die cut shield style in white and  another layer that’s been ink blended with the stamped cow in the middle along with a puny sentiment that continues inside the card. He used products from Simon Says Stamp.

“Holy Cow” is right, this card from Brenda is stunning! She used dies for the cow and for the detailed background scene, cutting everything from cream cardstock and adding color with Distress Inks, with a few details added to the cow with colored pencils. I love the little flowers in the cows hair, so sweet! Find more info at the Honey Bee Stamps blog.

I love the rustic background on this Highland Cow card!  There’s a woodgrain pattern along with planks of wood for fencing with brads for nails. The stamped cow also has die cut grass around him and a different woodgrain strip for the sentiment. These products are made by Memory Craft Mall.

Use those left over patriotic paper crafting supplies and make a festive Summer birthday card like Kristine did here. She used Diamond Pop Out Card dies for the base for a fun interactive design, adding die cut balloons and a cupcake, stamped puny sentiment and cow too. I came across her idea on the Divinity Designs Instagram page.

Create a quick and easy Highland Cow card with pre-printed elements. This cutie cow is die cut in a circle from pattern paper, cutting the horns out for added interest and placed on a woodgrain paper base. Along the bottom are some fussy cut flowers and a pink die cut banner with gold foiled sentiment. These products can be found at Hunkydory Crafts.
