I’m going to say right off the bat I’m a bit biased when it comes to this magazine review because Somerset Studio happens to be my favorite magazine 🙂 I’ve been reading it for many years and when I first started paper crafting I thought how amazing it would be to be published in it, I’m happy to say I’ve now had 3 of my projects published in Somerset Studio and each time it was such a thrill and honor.
Somerset Studio magazine focuses on paper arts and mixed media, in each issue you’ll find articles, inspiration, projects and tutorials that use rubber stamping, collage techniques, painting, sketching, mixed media, digital art, calligraphy and more. With projects for home décor, wall art, jewelry, cards and journals. Some of the very best paper artist write articles for Somerset Studio and readers from all over the word have their projects featured.
The current Mach/April issue has articles on learning a wood burning technique to mix along with your collages, how to make stunning digital art using vintage photographs, a Gelli plate printing collage, how to recycle a belt into a pendant and many more. Several of the articles and many of the projects feature a fun Circus theme like an amazing bird house turned into a circus cart, painted wall hangings perfect for a child’s room, 3D assemblage boxes, a fabric book and lots more.
Each issue of Somerset Studio also includes printed artist papers that you can tear out and use in your own projects.
I was inspired by the circus theme in this issue and made my collage (shown at the top) by layering cardstock, striped pattern paper, a large rubber stamp on acetate, an image cut from a vintage children’s book and added some embellishment with buttons, crepe paper and a pom pom.
